The NewGen designer perfects the loose suit for SS20 at LFWM

Bianca Saunders continued her sensitive and research-driven exploration of modern masculinity for SS20, this time bringing formal attire to the fore and giving it a delectable twist for a collection entitled ‘Character’. As always, the NewGen designer drew on intimate interviews with her male (and some female) friends and it was DJ Eldon Somers’ taste in suits that put her on a path toward loose dad jackets. These were pared with slacks with high slits that revealed delicate denier tight-covered legs. During the presentation, Somers was found cross-legged and head down, nestled among the draped fabric set designed by George Lewin, playing a soothing soundscape made up of field recordings.

Also inspired by the black men portrayed in the photographs of Deana Lawson and paintings of Barkley L Hendricks, Saunders offered up some heavy denim and leather outerwear plus shirts and shorts featuring her now signature rouched and pleated textures. These pieces were lovingly completed by lighter-than-air knitted vests, a collaboration with fellow RCA graduate Ceinor Salder.
