As an official media partner, Nataal previews the
Design Indaba Festival 2017

Nataal is excited to be a media partner for the Design Indaba Festival 2017. Taking place at Cape Town’s Artscape from 1 to 3 March, this established annual gathering offers a chance to get up close to some of most inspiring creatives from around the globe. The main conference and simulcast promises multi media presentations exploring how new design perspectives can offer universal solutions. Highlights of the line-up includes sculpture and installation artist Olafur Eliasson, design duo Dokter & Misses, art director Kate Moross, architect Winy Maas, furniture designer Yinka Ilori, photographer Osborne Macharia and advertising director Brian Collins.

Beyond the conference, the event opens up into an immersive world of exhibitions, installations, screenings and performances. The Most Beautiful Object In South Africa asks the public to vote for one of 10 projects that challenge notions of beauty, spanning furniture, ceramics, fashion, animation and community upliftment. The Emerging Creatives Class of 2017 shines a light on 40 of South Africa’s up and coming talents, including graphic designer Lungile Mbokane, fashion designer Nicholas Coutts and visual artist Banele Floyd Mavimbela. The FilmFest ranges from a documentary on William Kentridge to Roald Dahl’s fairytales. And the Nightscape sees guest creative director, Senegalese designer Selly Raby Kane, transform the Artspace piazza into a dreamland filled with robots, chill pods and a digital rainforest. Enter after dark to enjoy music from the likes of Paul Waxon, Daddy G, Blinky Bill, Native Young and Pierre-Estienne, as well as food, film and talks.

Book festival tickets here and look out for Nataal’s blow by blow account of the best of the festival in the coming weeks.
