Larry B captains a freaky football team in the video for his latest release, Hit It Right
Where does he score? Will he get it in the back of the net? Are wigs compulsory? These and many other questions spring to mind when watching Larry B take to the pitch in the video for his latest release, Hit It Right, from the 5 Sad Songs EP.
The video is directed by Nataal favourite Akinola Davies Jr, who has created shorts for Klein, Kenzo and Bianca Saunders recently, and also makes up the if-you-don’t-know-you-won’t-know party PDA with Larry B and Mischa Mafia.
Here he envisions the South London DJ and producer as a captain of a freaky football team and taking a very slow free kick while singing what is describes as “a dreamily weird offering that floats through space and time without a care in the world.” The eagle eyed among you will recognise some of London’s most exciting creatives among his line-up, who in the video, it must be said, exhibit better skills at vogueing than the beautiful game. No jumpers for goalposts - rather thigh high boots.
This EP is Larry Boakye’s first foray into singing. The British Ghanaian has become a centrifugal figure on the city’s underground music scene since starting out in 2011. He’s collaborated with Mykki Blanco and Grace Wales Bonner, regularly turns it up at Work It, Body Party and on NTS, and turns heads as much for his statuesque good looks as for for his fusion of R&B, pop and anything else that takes his exquisite fancy. Now the rising star is certainly hitting the right notes with this melancholic yet ultimately hopeful tune.
