Travys Owen and Gabrielle Kannemeyer embark on a wild journey to the Transkei for Mdingi Coutts’s AW16 campaign shoot

South African photographer Travys Owen and art director Gabrielle Kannemeyer have created this epic AW16 campaign for Mdingi Coutts. Inspired as much by the wide-open landscapes of Transkei as by the rich textures and handmade qualities of Lukhanyo Mdingi and Nicholas Coutts’ collection, the shoot takes us on a wet and windswept ride. “Both Lukhanyo and I are from the Eastern Cape on the border of the Transkei and I have been waiting years to find a story that I could shoot there. As soon we saw the Mdingi Coutts collection we knew it would be a prefect fit,” says Owen. “We believe in using our natural African landscape and fellow artisans as a means of enriching and enforcing our creative industry through storytelling.”
