As World Cup fever continues to rise, adidas Originals South Africa has teamed up with sought-after photographer Trevor Stuurman to mark the return of the Samba. His shoot features local creatives Uno Gondo and Lindiwe Ngubeni wearing new styles of the trainer in their own inimitable ways, Gondo reaching for the Samba OG and Ngubeni for the Samba Rose. While originally a football shoe, it’s since become a street style staple, as these images show.

“We decided to use the iconic handwoven Kente cloth from Ghana as backdrop as it represents time, technical skill and heritage. We felt that similar to fabric, soccer brings people together in an authentic manner,” says Stuurman of the collaborative shoot. “It was also so important for me to personally bring it back home to Africa and to celebrate our collective culture.”
