Young Gambian man Ebrima Jawara explores a Sicilian landscape in this romantic visual essay
Anima (meaning ‘soul’ in Italian) features Ebrima Jawara, a young Gambian man who arrived in Italy in 2017 - shot here in the Sicilian countryside. “This area near Mount Etna has such a strong Italian identity yet somehow reminds me of landscapes I’ve seen in West Africa,” says photographer Julia Martins Miranda. “It inspired me to create a story promoting the integration of different cultures to the Mediterranean lands.”
