Crystal blue skies, sun-bleached terracotta and the crispest white walls – welcome to Casablanca, where Filling Pieces sets its latest editorial. The Amsterdam-based label is best known for its sneakers – it was a low top with which the brand launched with in 2009 – but now also offer ready-to-wear collections that are replete with clean silhouettes taking their cues from streetwear.

This season is described as a ‘spiritual love story’ and its one with the leading roles are all given over to Moroccan creatives. Shot by Miftha Bahardeen, it stars local talents Rania Malik, Youssef Mascou, Youssef Han and Mochine Harisse and draws on the region’s style with the label’s new collection layered over djellabas and accessorised with traditional hats.

“The Moroccan style is hard to describe and hard to find anywhere else,” explains streetstyle star, Harisse. “To me, it’s chaotic and spontaneous. You see it especially with the old Moroccan men in the popular neighbourhoods, at big taxis stations and outside old coffee shops. They come up with unusual combinations that are simply meant to protect them from the sun or the cold, but it’s that nonchalance that makes it so inspiring for me.”

With its campaign, Filling Pieces hopes to shine a spotlight on the wealth of creativity that Morocco is blessed with, especially among its youth. “I think the scene is as diverse as the country itself, so it’s hard to pinpoint one thing,” continue Harisse. “I do see a lot of similar attitudes when it comes to my generation however; self-taught and open to global culture yet rooted in our own, we are willing to change the narrative and create stories with and by those who actually live it.” Plots which we can’t wait to see unfold.
