Nico Karel says: “Lately, I’ve been being revisited by dreams of my childhood. In one dream I saw my grandmother’s two ruby red canaries that I had long-forgotten. This compelled me to do some research and I discovered that canaries are representative of joy, freedom and intellectual development. These are qualities that I’ve come to attain and cherish over the last year since the pandemic began. With the help of two such striking models such as Oyinda and Baba, this story is a visual depiction of how much I’ve grown as an artist and as an individual.”
