Frances van Hasselt and Leandi Mulder have returned to their eternal point of inspiration, the Karoo landscape, for their latest FVHxLM mohair woven collection, ‘Desert Homage’. The design duo is dedicating to elevating and promoting South African mohair, the vast majority of which is exported internationally leaving precious little for local brands to enjoy and explore. This new range focusses on five luxuriously multifunctional pieces that allow the natural beauty and hues of their artisanal yarns to run free.

“The range is completely sustainable, locally made, and uses South African mohair and traditional hand weaving techniques,” Frances and Leandi tell us. “This timeless range deliberately avoids trends, focussing instead on versatility, simplicity and showcasing the natural characteristics of the fibre.”

The campaign film and imagery, debuted here on Nataal, brings us to this special region of the country with its rising mountains, wide vistas and unique vegetation, where their muses envelop themselves in scarves and blankets. “In each piece the irregularity of the yarns and weave convey the subtle shifts and changes of the Karoo’s vast horizons, her twisted knots of ancient rocks and the silence of the stories fossilised into the belly of this ancient seabed,” they add. “The Karoo tugs at our senses; with nothing to distract us from the shifting light, low hanging skies and the pastel pallet of the far away shapes.”
