Nataal partners with Design Indaba 2018 – the award-winning annual conference on design for a better world
“Incredible, radical, unforgettable, ungovernable, pioneering, compelling, brazen, urgent, disruptive.” Pause. “Relevant, off-centre, lawless, sensorial, lit, lit AF, catalytic, wired, necessary.” Pause. “3, 2, 1.” These words flash by on the trailer for Design Indaba 2018, offering a quick fire expression of the importance of this world class conference and festival on the future of creative thinking and design activism. Taking place at the Artscape Theatre Complex, Cape Town, from 21 to 24 February, Nataal is excited to be among its international media partners for the second consecutive year.
Check out our review of the 2017 experience and its many jaw-dropping moments here.
The first confirmed conference speakers for 2018 include celebrated spatial designer Morag Myerscough, who put her bold touch to the Bernie Grant Arts Centre café in London; landscape architect Peter Veenstra, co-founder of LOLA Architects and creator of the Adidas Campus headquarters in Germany; and the Cannes Lions award-winning filmmaker Sunu Gonera, who recently directed a music video for Khuli Chana.
Complimenting the inspirational and thought-provoking talks is Design Indaba’s interactive line-up of live music, movies, chef’s tables, exhibitions and performances. Highlights include the Nightscape experience, Film Festival programme and Emerging Creatives initiative, which once again supports the next generation of young South African designers. In addition, The Most Beautiful Object In South Africa competition asks the public to vote on entries that express beauty through social significance, economic impact, usability, sustainability and humour.
The full line-up will be announced soon so keep an eye on Nataal for stories on the delights in store at Design Indaba 2018.
