Stop and rest for a while at one of the most welcoming hotels in Marrakech

Maison Kenoosha isn’t just a pretty face. This family-run Marrakech boutique hotel’s luxury lies not only in its suites, spa, pool and beautiful finishes but in ways that are deeper and that really matter. Take the delicately perfumed toiletries in each room – they spent months at the manufacturer to ensure that, not only are the products effective, but the people who create them work in a nice environment and are paid fairly for their labour. These sumptuous skincare products line the glass shelves of the hotel’s ethical concept store, where you’ll also find silk pyjamas, dainty jewellery and homewares – all sourced from across Africa and South West Asia and crafted by women.

“We've always believed that the greatest wealth lies in the richness of cultures"

There’s soul in every part of this serene spot, a family-run business with traditional hospitality at its core, as well as a desire to celebrate the rich multitudes of Lebanese and African culture. “We've always believed that the greatest wealth lies in the richness of cultures. We are deeply connected to our origins, both Lebanese and African, and more than proud of them. They are the heart of who we are, shaping the way we see the world and the way we welcome others,” explains Ivana Dip, who greets guests alongside her incredibly lovely mum, Virginie. “The name Kenoosha is a tribute to our Arab origins, a name that blends our second names: Kenza, Noor, and Shaïma, the three daughters of the family.”

Set over a hectare, the land was sparse when the family purchased it – only a striking water tower was there. It remains – its geometric column mirroring that of the property designed by architect Mohamed Boullali – and at its top is a giant nest for the stalk that returns each winter. Nature is important to the family and that interest manifests in different forms. From the nursery set up by Virginie to care for new born tortoises through to the olive and orange tree groves that supply the hotel with the fresh juice and first press olive oil that you’ll find at the breakfast table. There’s even a 450-year-old olive tree that stands proudly in the garden protected by an evil eye amulet displayed on its trunk. In fact, the garden was planted before a single brick was laid.

“To truly recharge, one must reconnect with nature; its scents, textures, quietness"

“We believe that to truly recharge, one must reconnect with nature; its scents, textures, quietness,” reflects Noor. “We designed the garden to reflect the diversity we cherish. We’ve brought together different landscapes; a lush aromatic garden filled with herbs, an olive grove with centuries old trees, a cactus garden, an orangery bursting with colour and a citrus path, lined with lemon, caviar lemon, and exotic trees that offer a sensory journey through the seasons.”

The care that’s gone into the garden can also be seen in the elegance of the interior design, for which Virginie is entirely responsible. “There are unique antique pieces from Morocco, India and a lot from Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Cameroon, countries that are part of our story. Every decision is guided by shared values, memories, and a deep sense of purpose.” And the added benefit of staying as the guests of this warm, welcoming and thoughtful family? A very sound sleep indeed.
