Nataal exclusive: Lukhanyo Mdingi's SS17 lookbook ploughs the soils of South African style
Lukhanyo Mdingi debuts his SS17 lookbook with Nataal. The Cape Town-based designer collaborated with photographer Kent Andreasen and together they chose the barren and burnt fields of the Highveld as the scene for their story, entitled Purgation. “I wanted to embody a sense of allure and romantic rusticity by effortlessly melding traditional artisanal elements into a striking modern narrative,” Mdingi explains. “Models Lebohang and Khashane help to communicate the collection’s relaxed silhouettes, intricate patterns and rich tonal hues that are captured in South Africa’s natural landscape.” Sparkling high necked knits, pleated, folded trousers and raw cottons jumpsuits form a new take on farm chic.
