The Brazilian photographer documents his much-longed-for reunion with his family in Salvador

After spending four years working in São Paulo, photographer Naelson de Castro recently made it back to Salvador, Bahia, to reunite with his family. He marked this special occasion with this personal series of images of his nieces and nephews, the youngest of which he’d never met, which he debuts here with Nataal.

“For me, it was very important to reconnect with these members of my family and celebrate this loving moment that will be forever remembered. I prepared a meal and then we took these photos,” he recalls. “They represent the continuity of my ancestors' stream. Without taking away the characteristics and personalities of each one, I've portrayed the reality of those I love so much. I hope that these pictures will always bring back that feeling of affection, which is never lacking between us, even from far away.”
