Allow the body to feel the land and call pieces of her home
N9CRA (nuq-rah) is the beautiful work of artist Camelia Chorsi. Her silver adornments draw on both North African and Persian artforms to harness “the metaphysical energy of the materials and the ancestral qualities the craft evokes”. Deriving its name from the Moroccan Darija Arabic word and Farsi word for silver, she’s inspired to create a healing world “where the moon meets the water”.
Chorsi’s latest collection of earrings, entitled ‘Sediment’, comprises organic forms featuring quartzite, natural crystals, shells and pearls to create a symphony of sand and sea. And in this visual narrative – a collaboration between Chorsi and photographer Jameela Elfaki – these designs are taken across a series of Moroccan sandscapes and structures where their power is ignited once worn. “As a search for freedom and a redefining of home, these pieces enable us to embody culture and tradition, connecting the core of our bodies to the core of the Earth,” they say.
