The latest campaign for Algerian brand IBDAA is a tribute to the country’s south

“’Tenere’ is the beauty of the Sahara, in all of its grandeur,” says visual artist sknkii. Based in Paris now, this young talent grew up in Algiers but it’s Algeria’s south that he’s exploring with this campaign for modest fashion brand IBDAA.

“The colours in the collection are drawn from the earth, the warm sand and the blue of the Nila powder, while the modern and timeless cuts of the pieces have a contained, modest power,” he explains. “Every look, every fold of the fabric tells a story – that of a femininity that’s rooted and proud.” To celebrate the Sahara in an authentic way, sknkii chose to shoot in natural light with a line-up of street-cast models. “They’re not professionals – these were their first steps in front of the camera and they were wearing their everyday make-up and hair,” he adds. “With ‘Tenere’, I wanted to pay tribute to the woman of the south: dignified, mysterious and mystical.”
