This exclusive story features the SS21 collection from Mmusomaxwell. The emerging label from Joburg-based Maxwell Boko and Mmuso Potsane focuses on offering pared back, beautifully tailored and sustainably made pieces. First joining forces in 2016 after meeting on an internship with luxury designer David Tlale, the duo’s brand has since garnered attention from press including Vogue Italia and BoF, secured enviable stockists such as The Folklore, and showcased at fashion weeks both at home and in Nigeria and Uganda.

This season their elegant wraparound jackets, fitted tunics and pleated skirts in warm hues are made for wearing to walk tall into the boardroom. “We wanted to challenge the narrative of a women’s place in society, especially in African cultures, so we dove into the world of a woman living in a modern space,” they say. “This is a woman who, in spite of patriarchal notions, can still hold primary positions in business, politics and society.”
