We launch our debut print magazine in May at our exhibition, Nataal: New African Photography III, in association with Red Hook Labs
This May, Nataal is delighted to announce two arrivals - our third annual group exhibition with Red Hook Labs, New African Photography III, and the publication of our first bi-annual print magazine.
On view from 4 to 13 May, our co-curated show with Labs in Brooklyn will this year features six female artists - Fatoumata Diabaté (Mali), Rahima Gambo (Nigeria), Keyezua (Angola), Alice Mann (South Africa), Ronan McKenzie (UK) and Ruth Ossai (UK/Nigeria). Each one will be presenting recent works offering their own fresh afro-positive perspectives and addressing a diverse set of concerns relating to representation, gender and identity.
New African Photography III follows the success of our two previous exhibitions. US Vogue called the 2016 show “a journey into the rich visual culture of Africa” while Creators said the 2017 show included “photography that speaks to an increasing sense of self across the vast continent.” This year it feels important to put the female gaze firmly in the spotlight.
The opening night of New African Photography III, on 4 May, will also celebrate the launch of Nataal’s debut print issue. The large format magazine includes a section dedicated to the exhibition as well as over 300 pages of exclusive stories. It is on sale in the UK now and internationally from in the coming weeks.
