Exclusive: watch the video for Pierre Kwenders and Clément Bazin's Ego on Nataal
Pierre Kwenders and Clément Bazin launch the video for their new song ‘Ego’ today on Nataal. Congolese-Canadian singer and DJ (and co-founder of the Montréal-based Moonshine collective), Kwenders is known for his delicious, rumba-infused R&B, which is here given a tropical electro edge by respected French producer Bazin (Woodkid, Petit Biscuit).
Watch it now:
Taken from their upcoming four-track EP ‘Classe Tendresse’, which sees the duo get all up in their feelings about life’s journey through learning, love and loss, ‘Ego’ is the release’s warm and sexy club banger. Such a song naturally demands an equally alive video. Fittingly, they have collaborated with London-based Ghanaian director Daniel Amoakoh to create this short film featuring two brilliant performers from Paris’s vogueing and African diaspora communities.
“This story is deep rooted in heritage and homage,” Amoakoh tells us. “I wanted to tell a story of aspiration while also showing my love and adoration for the art of vogueing and everything that comes with it. The song is all about having a big ego and big energy and we married that with the storyline, closing the video with an iconic monologue from [young voguer] Hanabi, shouting out all the haters.”
While real dancefloors might be closed right now, this song and video proves that all you need to “kill it bitch” is a steelpan drum, a skin tight outfit and the ability to dip down low.
‘Classe Tendresse’ by Pierre Kwendersand Clément Bazin is out 23 October on Nowaday Records
