Nataal debuts Sunni Dixon’s AW21 footwear collection that walks on the wild side

Sunni Sunni is a brand steeped in fast city fashion. Designer Sunni Dixon was raised in Washington DC and lives in Brooklyn, which feeds into his statement shoe styles. “Experiencing the ebbs and flows of the city life’s daily endeavours and nightly events, you naturally gain a style that is a blend of the two,” Dixon explains. “Sunni Sunni interprets this street style with an assortment radiating an ‘all eyes on me’ attitude where the shoe is the focal point.”

Yet for his AW21 campaign, he takes his two muses into the wilds to see where the new collection of highly structured shoes will take them. Home Boy finds these young men exploring the babbling brooks and leafy woods by day. But by night, their cabin becomes stained in an eerie red light as they look out into the unknown. Two signature styles, the square toed Reese boot and Lonel mule, come in hot shades of embossed python print and can be accessorised by a silver-plated chain harness – all the more armed for what lies outside.

"Home Boy is my first installation conveying two youths living and existing in one environment together,” Dixon adds. “I like to create stories that interpret real life by way of visual art. The viewer will get to follow this footwear become part of a lifestyle and not just a look for the moment.”

The self-taught designer officially established Sunni Sunni in 2020 with a range of conceptual and ethically made styles typified by their seasonless and genderless appeal. Chunky yet smooth, biker-ish yet red carpet-ready, these are shoes that shine wherever you go. He’s since found fans including Lil Nas X, Ashton Sanders, Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union and Billy Porter as well as prestigious stockists such as Saks Fifth Avenue. And with this new range, the road ahead
